My personal review of the Tuirel desktop studio LED light box bought on eBay. In my efforts to find a portable soft light box I came across this box made by Tuirel. This box usually sells for between $75-90 but I caught one on auction for $60 so decided to give it a shot. My opinion: Don’t waste your money, this box will not do what they say it will do!
The listing on eBay is very misleading. They show these great pictures of what you can expect your pics to look like, and even say “with no editing software”. Later in this post I have some of the pictures I took with this box using the same camera and ring I used as examples in my home made light box( you can read that post Here ), and another ring I had in stock. No matter what adjustments I made to my camera or what angle I shot the pictures from the pictures were terrible. There is no way the pics they show in the listing were shot with the lighting that came with the box without them making very heavy adjustments with some kind of software. Since I use reflective acrylic to shoot all my photos it made it even harder to get the right angle to avoid reflections in the pictures.
Needless to say I would not use a single one of these pics in one of my online listings, they can’t even come close to comparing to the pics shot in my home made light box( seen Here ). The pictures shot in my home made box have no editing done to them at all, they are posted in my listings online straight off the camera, so this is a fair comparison. Here are the pics I shot inside the box, and some pics of the box itself, some shot with camera on auto, others with camera adjusted like they show in the listing I bought it from on eBay:
Although some of the pictures are “ok” and show good detail of the item itself, there are still reflections all around the item. The background around the item should be black, not the dark grey it is coming out as.
The only pros:
-Easy to assemble and break down for portability
-Since uses LED lighting never gets very hot inside
-Not near enough light to offset reflections
-Pics will come out with an unnatural color even with white balance adjusted properly
-No on/off switch so has to be unplugged every time
This review is my personal opinion. It is based on a comparison between my home made light box which I have been using for 3 years, and this Tuirel box I bought on eBay. This post was written to help others make a better informed decision as I couldn’t find any kind of review on this box before I bought it. You can easily compare the pics in this post to the pics taken in my home made box by going Here.
